A photo lab for the decade that never really left
Novaali started with a shoebox of our parents' old prints: laser backdrops, soft-focus glamour, harsh flash and that orange date stamp. We wanted everyone to be able to step into those pictures.
What we do
Novaali is an online 1980s photo generator. You upload a selfie, choose a style, and our AI pipeline rebuilds the photo the way it would have been shot in the 1980s: the hair, the clothes, the lighting, the backdrop and the film itself.
Every image we create is a piece of AI-generated artwork. It is made for nostalgia, fun, gifts and creative projects, and it is clearly not a real photograph from the past.
We are a small, remote team of photographers, designers and engineers who care about doing this responsibly, with clear rules on consent and privacy.
What we believe
Authentic, not a filter
We study real 1980s photographs, from yearbooks and mall studios to camcorders and vacation film, and build every style around the details that make them feel real.
Consent first
Novaali is for photos of yourself or adults who have agreed to it. We block sexual content and photos of minors, and we act quickly on abuse reports.
Your photos stay yours
Uploads are deleted within 24 hours, results after 30 days. We don't sell photos and we don't train AI models on them.
